Female Veterans Monument

The Female Veterans Monument stands as a lasting tribute to the women who have served our nation—at home and abroad, in peace and in war—to safeguard America.

Created through the vision, leadership, and determination of the Female Veterans Network, the monument recognizes generations of women whose military service, sacrifice, courage, and contributions have too often gone unseen. Dedicated in January 2021 at the Historic Citrus County Courthouse in Inverness, Florida, it provides a permanent place of honor and reflection for women veterans, their families, and the community.

Meaning in the design

The monument’s design was created to reflect the distinctive strength and experience of women who have served:

• Its three steps represent faith, family, and courage.
• Its three-sided form represents God, country, and service.
• Its single point at the top symbolizes the crowning achievements of female veterans.
• Its curves and height were intentionally designed to create a more personal connection between women veterans and the monument that honors them.

Made of black granite quarried in Pennsylvania, the approximately 5-foot, 6-inch monument rests on a gray granite pedestal. Its central dedication honors “all the women who served at home and abroad, in peace and war, to safeguard America.”

A permanent place of honor

The Female Veterans Monument is more than a memorial structure. It is a public affirmation that women have always served, led, sacrificed, and strengthened our nation. 

It invites visitors to pause, remember, and recognize the women whose service has shaped military history and continues to strengthen their families, communities, and country. It stands in honor of every woman veteran—past, present, and future.
