Her First Formation

In Honor of Cynthia Henderson

Her First Formation is an emerging initiative of the Female Veterans Network, created in honor of founder Cynthia Henderson and her enduring commitment to women who serve.

The program is being developed to encourage and support women as they begin their military journeys—whether entering the Armed Forces as recruits or pursuing a commission as future officers. It reflects the belief that every woman who answers the call to serve deserves encouragement, connection, and a welcoming community from the very beginning.

Our intention

Her First Formation is intended to honor Cynthia Henderson’s vision of women supporting women through service, leadership, and sisterhood. As the initiative takes shape, it is designed to offer a foundation of support for future women service members through:

• Encouragement as they prepare to enter military service or leadership training.
• Connections with women veterans and military professionals who understand the journey ahead.
• Mentorship, networking, and a sense of belonging within a community of women who have served.
• Limited financial assistance intended to help eligible participants prepare for their initial transition into military service.
• A complimentary first-year membership in the Female Veterans Network, welcoming recipients into a continuing community of support.

A beginning worth honoring

The first steps into military service are significant. They mark the beginning of a commitment that can shape a woman’s life, identity, opportunities, and future leadership.

Her First Formation is intended to recognize that moment—not only as the start of an individual military career, but as the beginning of connection to a broader sisterhood of women who have served before her and those who will serve alongside her.

Her First Formation is currently in development and is not yet accepting applications or distributing assistance.
